In the future, everything can be made from wood fibre, offering renewable and recyclable low-carbon alternatives to many fossil-based materials and products. Through circularity, wood-based textiles, building materials and carbon-neutral technologies, paper- and fibre-based products represent a tangible way for Europe to strengthen its open strategic autonomy and at the same time for citizens to make sustainable consumption choices in their daily lives.
The FOLBB Group manufactures its sustainable folding boxboard from virgin fiber material, we use wood from sustainably managed production forests located around our mills. The wood from a tree in such a forest is mainly used for construction, and from the remaining material – which is unsuitable for processing in construction – we make an attractive and sustainable folding boxboard, which is the basis for packaging many food and pharmaceutical products.
For example, our cartonboard can be used to make snack trays, which can replace plastic snack trays. We have had our own snack trays made at our Eerbeek mill, which we offer free of charge to sportsclub canteens in the Eerbeek region, enabling them to reduce the use of plastic in their canteens.
This tray was also selected for the CEPI Bioeconomy LAB exhibition in Brussels at the end of September 2024.
